Betsy was a member of the founding board for El Salitre Women’s and Children’s Center in 2017 and has served as its president the entire time.
Betsy worked to establish the El Salitre Women’s and Children’s Center, a US not-for profit organization and a Guatemalan association. She has been active in Guatemala in several ways: working directly with the seamstresses and helping to establish the legal structure of the Guatemalan association. She also participated in the organization’s land acquisition and planning for the Center building.
Prior to Betsy’s involvement with the El Salitre Board, from 2003-2018 she was a Board member of Springboard to Learning, a St. Louis not-for-profit that provides arts education and enrichment for underserved children in St. Louis area schools and a member of the Clayton Board of Education from 1988-2003.
Finally, she is a wife and mother. She has been married to Tom, a lawyer, for 54 years and together they have 5 grown children and 8 grandchildren.
