Donate to Provide Protection for El Salitre
This fundraiser will help to provide protective hurricane covers for the windows of the El Salitre Women and Children’s Center. Guatemala ranks in the top five countries in the world most affected by floods, hurricanes and earthquakes. In terms of the country’s vulnerability to hurricanes, the risk is high which means that there is more than a 20% chance of potentially-damaging wind speeds in the next 10 years (Thinkhazard.org).
The beautiful design of our Center makes is particularly vulnerable to these winds: the wall of the main room where the women have their sewing machines is floor to ceiling windows and the wall of the classrooms and kitchen/dining area is mostly windows. Protective covers for these windows were in the original building plans but construction in Guatemala does not always adhere to the original budget.
With your help we will be able to protect the lives and the livelihood of the seamstresses and their families who will have a safe space during catastrophic storms.
By contributing to the Center, you will directly support initiatives that empower women, educate children, and improve family nutrition, helping to break the cycle of poverty in El Salitre.
The El Salitre Women’s and Children’s Center is a tax-exempt organization described in Section501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code: EIN 81-5434301
